Roles and assignment

Every iteration has exactly one owner at any time.

The owner is the person currently driving the iteration forward. They answer questions, approve plans, and decide when to move to the next phase. Anyone in the workspace can view the iteration, but only the owner can take it forward.

Reassignment is a normal part of how iterations work. A typical pattern:

  1. PM creates the iteration and works through the Product phase.
  2. PM hands off to a designer to generate and refine the prototype.
  3. Designer hands off to an engineer to start the Engineering phase.
  4. Engineer works through engineering, planning, and building.

You can reassign an iteration two ways:

  • From the iteration list, click the three dots and pick a new owner.
  • Inside an iteration, click the owner's avatar and pick a new owner.

Itera will sometimes suggest a reassignment when you advance phases (for example, suggesting an engineer when you move to the engineering phase), but you can always keep the iteration yourself.
